Key Stage 3 

The overall aims of the Geography Department are to stimulate at all levels an ability and interest in the subject and also to develop an awareness, knowledge and respect for the environment from the local to the global scale.  

We study a broad range of topics throughout the key stage 3 curriculum giving our students the change to study human, physical and environmental geography at both the local and international scope. Ranging from topics such as ‘Geographies of Northern Ireland’ and Climate change, to Map skills and environmental sustainability.  

Key Stage 4

Exam Board: CCEA

Unit 1: Understanding our natural world.      

This is examined through a written examination worth 40% of your total grade. 

In this unit we study:  

  • River environments
  • Coastal environments
  • Our changing weather and climate and
  • The restless earth -Earthquakes and volcanoes

 

Unit 2: Living in our world.    

This is examined through a written examination worth 40% of your total grade. 

In this unit we study:

  •  Population and migration.  
  • Changing urban areas
  • Contrasts in world development
  • Managing our environment
  • Population and migration.

Unit 3: River fieldwork

This is examined in a one-hour external examination which will be based on a field school into the changing profile of a river in Northern Ireland.
