Student Council

The purpose of our Student Council is to strengthen our ethos of participation by providing pupils with a meaningful way to voice their opinions and have their views considered in decisions which impact upon them, in line with Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The student council is made up of elected pupil members across all year groups, with representation from at least two members from each form class. The pupil members are elected in September and remain in position for a full academic year.

Our Student Council is facilitated by our Vice Principal and meets regularly to discuss important matters which affect our young people ensuring they have their say. The council members show leadership and promote values of respect, kindness, and inclusivity which they embed throughout the wider school and local community.

The benefits for our pupils are;

  • Improved health and wellbeing
  • Better educational outcomes
  • Development of skills such as problem solving, negotiation and decision making
  • Increased respect for others
  • Enhanced confidence, self esteem and motivation
  • Familiarity of leadership and democracy
  • Increased personal social and organisational skills
  • Increased involvement and commitment to the college and their community
